Toronto to start Christmas celebrations with Market event

Lowe's Toronto Christmas Market is set to take place in the city over two weeks at the start of December. It is influenced by the markets of Europe and offers attendees a range of traditional activities.

The opening ceremony will include a visit from Santa Claus and a musical performance by Measha Brueggergosman. The centerpiece of the market is expected to be the 45-foot spruce tree.

Guests can then enjoy entertainment provided by the Candy Cane Carollers, before having their pets photographed with Santa. The World Caroling Challenge will take place on the last day of the market, and participants will be given a free candle holder and LED candle. Mill Street has also agreed to donate $1 to the Daily Bread Food Bank for every person who competes.

Santa's Lane is set to provide a range of fun activities for children and their parents. This includes a visit to Santa's house, storytelling, the elves’ workshop, and a life-sized gingerbread house. Children can also have their pictures taken with Santa for $5, with all proceeds going to the Toronto Star Santa Claus fund. Adults will be able to enjoy beer gardens and a warming lounge.

Vendors participating in the market are expected to be selling holiday decorations, food, and gifts; Trees Ontario will also be selling natural wreaths and trees.

The organizers of seasonal markets often work with local printing companies to keep members of the community informed about their events.

The Toronto Christmas Market is being held at the Distillery Historic District from November 29 to December 15; admission is free. For more information, call 416-364-1177.
