In its urban design plan, Toronto includes many green spaces, and an upcoming guided excursion will introduce the public to these wild areas in the heart of the city.
Wild Ones Wilderness will be leading a hike that will follow a route along the Humber River, and it will depart from the Old Mill subway station. The planners have explained that as the seasons are transitioning, participants can count on seeing and hearing how the forest changes according to the season.
While the group enjoys the excursion, they will learn about the assorted flora and fauna they encounter, including edible and medicinal plants. Wilderness survival tips will also be shared, and the participants will receive a lesson in the basics of trail etiquette and how to minimize their impact on the environment.
Registration for this outdoor activity is free. Everyone who plans to take part is asked to wear gloves and a mask, and social distancing will be followed.
Often, organizers of an activity like this supply each registrant with a basic field guidebook, so that they can continue learning after the event. Print shops can supply these sorts of printed materials.
The Old Mill North Hike has been planned for December 12th. The group will set out from the meeting location at 2672 Bloor Street West at 12:00pm.
