Fungi come in many Forms, and families that would like to learn more about mycology may find an upcoming Toronto walk to be quite fascinating.
The High Park Nature Centre Forest School announced that an outing that will explore the world of fungi will be held at the park in early November. This is towards the tail end of mushroom season, and the fee for the activity is $10.
Participants will be able to learn about the mushrooms and other fungi that can be found in the woods, and an introduction to lichens, which are a combination of fungi and algae or cyanobacteria, is also in the works. Their role in the nutrient cycle and the ecosystems in the park will be discussed, and everyone can ask any questions they have. It was explained that this will not be a foraging hike and that collecting plants, fungi and other natural materials is prohibited.
Amateur mycology and other nature based activities may offer both fun and a chance for families to enjoy being active together. A poster printing company will be able to provide a full line of marketing items that may be both thrifty and effective.
The High Park Nature Centre will be introducing members of the public to the joys of mushroom hunting on November 4th. The registrants well hit the trails at 1:30 pm.
