Birding can be a fun way to introduce kids to the value of environmental stewardship, and the High Park Nature Centre is giving Toronto kids an opportunity to get started.
The facility will be hosting a winter bird count, and it will give youngsters a chance to support scientific research in the local area. The data these future naturalists collect will be used in a variety of ways, including to support conservation efforts. Funding for this initiative has been provided courtesy of the High Park Western Beaches Fund.
The kids who participate will get some practice using binoculars, and they are asked to bring along their own pair if they have them. They will learn how to identify the birds they see, and they may even be lucky enough to spot a rare species. The whole family is welcome, and the suggested donation to take part is $2 to $5 per person.
Introducing kids to nature at a young age often helps them to develop a lifelong love of the great outdoors. A company offering printing services can prepare a variety of resource materials, including basic field guides, that can aid the children and adults who take part in this sort of activity to identify the species they see.
The Winter Bird Count for Kids is set to take place on December 19th. It will be on offer at the High Park Nature Centre.
