Prevention Link has partnered with Mental Health Canada to offer Toronto residents an opportunity to become skilled in first aid for the mind.
Just as with a person’s physical health, a person’s mental health may be in need of immediate aid in a time of crisis, and the participants in the Mental Health First Aid Basic class will learn what to do until professionals are on the scene.
The registration fee for the workshop, which is $180, will include the instruction as well as manuals and other materials, lunch and a certificate of completion. The learners must attend both days of the course to be certified.
Participants will be introduced to topics, ranging from the stigma surrounding mental illness to mood-related disorders such as depression. Anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and psychotic disorders are also on the syllabus for discussion, and when they walk away, each student will have a personal toolkit they can draw on to help someone in need.
Taking part in a continuing education workshop can offer a lot of perks to the participants. Certificates of completion, training manuals and other printed materials for such a learning session may be obtained from area brochure printing companies.
The in-person Mental Health First Aid Basic class will be offered on March 22nd and 23rd. It is scheduled for IBEW Local 353 Training Centre at 1377 Lawrence Avenue East.
