Abstract Expressionist New York exhibit coming to the Art Gallery of Ontario

The exhibit Abstract Expressionist New York (ABEX) features masterpieces of the genre from the Museum of Modern Art in New York City. It will be at the Art Gallery of Ontario from May 28 until September 4, 2011. Companies who specialize in poster or postcard printing in Toronto are excited to see such an exhibition come to the city.

‘Abstract Expressionist New York’ will feature 100 works from several important artists of the abstract expressionist movement, which are permanently housed in the Museum of Modern Art. The artistic movement reached its peak during the 1940s and 50s and continued to the early 60s. The goal of those artists involved was “to create a new beginning for art.” The exhibit features paintings, drawings and photographs. Admission is $25 for adults, $21.50 for seniors and $16.50 for children up to 17 and students or free for Art Gallery of Ontario members.

Amongst the important artists featured in the exhibit are Willem de Koonig, David Smith, Mark Rothko, Robert Motherwell, Barnett Newman, Joan Mitchell and Jackson Pollock. The exhibit features 12 paintings by Jackson Pollock alone. Several of the featured works of art include Pollock’s Number 1A, 1948, Mark Rothko’s No. 5/No. 22 and de Koonig’s Woman 1. All of the exhibited works of art provide a great example of abstract expressionism.

Printers who specialize in unique poster or postcard printing in Toronto can learn much from these masters of abstract expressionist art.
