Timmins invited to explore non-verbal communication tools

People can be non-verbal for a variety of reasons such as selective mutism or an autism spectrum disorder, and a Timmins luncheon will offer a sneak peek into how it’s possible to communicate without using speech.

Bright Spot Therapy Services Ltd has organized a lunch and learn with a special twist. It is scheduled for The Porcupine Dante Club in South Timmins, and tickets are available for $45.

During the activity, the guests will learn how it’s possible to communicate non-verbally using a variety of tools such as augmentative and alternative communication materials, and they will be able to give them a test drive for themselves. The goal is for everyone to walk away with a better understanding and appreciation of the challenges those who are non-verbal face when navigating the world. The activity has a run time of one hour.

The monies raised through this gathering will be used to fund speech scholarships, which can help Timmins residents access therapies and other supports to help them increase their verbal abilities. Pacing strips, picture exchange sheets and non-verbal symbol cards are some of the communication development tools that can be custom designed by Stationery printers.

This opportunity to gain some insight into the world of nonverbal communication will be held on May 29th. Tickets may be purchased by visiting its event listing, and it will begin at 12:00 pm.
