Celebrations and events for Timmins’ 100th birthday will happen throughout the year, and one of the first events planned by City Hall will be the official launch of the strategic plan, entitled Timmins 2020. Residents are invited to view the long-term vision for the city at 11:00 am at the Timmins Native Friendship Centre.
Housing, tourism and recreation strategies will be the primary focus as well as a realistic long-term financial plan. The goal is to stimulate the economic viability of Timmins, and residents are invited to participate. Tom Laughren, the Committee Chair, invites everyone to pick up a copy of the plan and see what is planned for the future of Timmins.
Copies of the plan are available in French and English and can be picked up from the Timmins library, City Hall, TEDS, the Native Friendship Centre, Northern College, La Ronde, College Boreal, the Venture Centre and the Chamber of Commerce. Timmins 2020 can also be downloaded at www.timmins.ca. Residents who don’t have access to a printer can download the plan, save it on a disk, then take it to a printing company and make as many Copies as desired.
The Steering Committee hopes that residents will make it a priority to review the plan, come to the meeting on January 17th, and provide input, suggestions, comments and constructive criticism. Christine Leclair, President of the Chamber of Commerce, says that “the City is listening” and wants both businesses and residents to work together to create the long-term vision for Timmins.
