Chinese investment coming to Timmins

The owner of a Chinese-based company visited with Mayor Steve Black to discuss his intention of locating a plant that produces basalt fibre

in Timmins.

The company, Jiangsu Tianlong Continuous Basalt Fiber Co. Ltd, currently has facilities in Jiangsu Province, but sees the geological value of opening here in Timmins.

This week’s visit on Monday December 14 helped owner Ying Dong Qiu learn about regulatory and technical requirements in order to make his plans a reality.

According Christy Marinig, chief executive of the Timmins Economic Development Corporation, the basalt in Timmins has a better composition of fibre than the basalt in other areas of Ontario, which is why Qiu is so interested in locating his plant in the city.

During a recent business trip in Beijing, both Mayor Black and Qiu signed a letter of intent, which likely had the letterhead of either the Jiangsu Tianlong Continuous Basalt Fiber Co or the city of Timmins.

The new facility would bring jobs to Timmins’ manufacturing sector as well as introduce new technical skills to the workforce. A printing company supports new facilities and companies through various services, such as printing Business Cards and Signs for legislative purposes such as health and safety requirements around the facility.

According to Mayor Black, he hopes to have Qiu and his staff back to Timmins as more details are worked out.
