Peel police officers mark important anniversary

Police from around the Mississauga region came together recently to celebrate 40 years of a unified police force.

In 1974, law enforcement from Brampton, Chinguacousy, Mississauga, Streetsville, and Port Credit joined together as the Peel Regional Police, which is the third largest force in the country.

Many current and former officers came out for the January 18 event, and there were plenty of displays that showcased the evolution of law enforcement throughout the years. There was a slide show running in the background and tables set up with displays of forensic equipment, old style police radios, old sirens and even antiquated police cruiser computers. One officer was able to reacquaint himself with the style of communication equipment he used when he first started with the force in the 1990s.

A completely restored 1974 yellow police car was parked at the entrance, and there were examples of old style police uniforms.

Jennifer Evans, who was the first female chief of police for the region and who still holds that position, noted the changes that have taken place and the memories it brought back. She remarked on how the site of the former Peel Regional Police Headquarters is now a Harvey’s restaurant.

A Print company can really help to make an anniversary event such as this a huge success. It can produce signage, Banners, advertising Posters and even souvenir programs for people to take home. It can enlarge old photographs without losing resolution, which can really make them something special and help those involved reminisce about days gone by.
