Millions of songbirds are on the move, and this annual migration means it is almost time for a magical Mississauga experience.
The community will be celebrating spring with its Dawn Chorus, filled with the unique calls of many birds. It is free to take part, and as it will be held outdoors, everyone is reminded to dress for the weather.
The activity will open with a lakeside drumming circle and smudging ceremony, and this will be followed by a light, indigenous-inspired bite to eat. After this, there will be a guided nature walk, and while they walk, the group will look and listen for Signs of migrating birds and other Signs of spring. There will be an introduction to both Merlin Bird ID and iNaturalist, and how they collect and use data supplied by "citizen scientists”.
The sessions is suitable for those age six and up. Flashlights are recommended, and anyone who requires accommodations to join the fun is asked to contact the organizers at least five days ahead of time.
By providing the public with chances to learn about and interact with nature, environmentally focused organizations can help create a new crop of stakeholders. A flyer printing company can help spread the word about such events to as many as possible.
The Dawn Chorus event will be held on May 3rd. It will see those who register arrive at the Small Arms Inspection Building in Mississauga bright and early at 5:30 am.
