Mississauga home gardeners to plant for pollinators

A well-designed plant garden can offer four seasons of interest and attract pollinators, and an online workshop hosted by a Mississauga-based organization will show how easy it can be to lend Mother Nature a helping hand.

The online “Design Your Own Pollinator Garden” will be teaching ways to make a garden that bees, butterflies and other pollinators will love. Registration is by a $5.00 donation, and it is being presented thanks to Blooming Boulevards.

During the workshop, that facilitator will review which species do best under urban and suburban conditions, and the fundamentals of garden design will be shared as well. Everyone will find out how to create plantings that incorporate various textures, shapes and colours, and the challenges of growing on boulevards and up on balconies will be discussed as well. Tips for plant care will be covered, and when it is time to sign off, the attendees will all have knowledge they need to create a native plant garden that pleases them, their neighbours and pollinators as well.

An online presentation may include live demonstrations, and a printing services company can provide a range of supports and services. They can supply custom-designed backdrops, props and other materials.

This opportunity for gardeners to hit the ground running this spring planting season will begin at 11:00 am on March 14th. The session has a run time of one hour.
