The firm will also be observing a minute of silence at 11:00am. During that time, buses will pull over to the side of the road and stop so the drivers and passengers can pay their respects by observing this important tradition.
Veterans who would like to make use of the free ride service are respectfully asked to identify themselves by wearing their Legion or military uniform, donning their medals, or bringing a suitable form of identification.
Speaking about the idea, MiWay’s director of transit, Geoff Marinoff, said:
“We honour the brave men and women who served our country during war by offering a free ride as our way of saying thank you.
“Each veteran is respectfully asked to identify a companion to transit operators so that he or she may also ride free.”
Members of the public are being encouraged to use the company’s buses to travel to and from a special Remembrance Day ceremony, which will take place at 10:45am on the day itself. It will be held at the Mississauga Civic Center in the north-west corner of Celebration Square and organizers are expecting a sizeable turnout.
Public transport systems often work with local printing companies to produce informative Flyers and Brochures for community members, and MiWay may well do the same to ensure everything runs smoothly on the day.
