Mississauga university receive $12 million donation from philanthropist

Stationery printers in Mississauga will be in for busy time meeting the demands of the many Print needs at the University of Toronto Mississauga’s new complex. Terrence Donnelly, a philanthropist, is supporting the University of Toronto Mississauga Academy of Medicine with an amazing $12 million donation. This is the biggest single donation made to the campus in its long history.

This awesome contribution will be used towards the building construction, as well as providing scholarships and bursaries to medical students. The Terrence Donnelly Health Sciences Complex will be the name of the new facility.

Donnelly is the president of the Terrence Donnelly Foundation. He is also director and president of The Colonel Harland Sanders Charitable Organization, Inc. Carlo Fidani, a Mississauga businessman who gave a gift, together with private donors and the provincial government, provided funding for the new complex. Fidani’s challenge was fulfilled with Donnelly’s gift, resulting in a total of $22 million being contributed.

University of Toronto president David Naylor said:
“Terrence Donnelly’s generosity and vision will make a difference to communities across Ontario. We are deeply indebted to him for his remarkable leadership, and his commitment to improving access to top-flight medical education and to high-quality health care.”

It is planned that the Terrence Donnelly Health Sciences Complex will open its doors this summer. Fifty-four undergraduate students will be educated in the Terrence Donnelly Health Sciences Complex’s Mississauga Academy of Medicine. Two hundred and sixteen students will be enrolled in the four-year medical program by 2014.
