Gardening is an activity many people enjoy, and thanks to a recent grant, Mississauga’s Riverwood Conservancy will now be even more accessible to everyone.
The Ontario Trillium Foundation has given the garden a three-year grant of $241,700 to help support its Enabling Garden.
The 1,400 square foot garden was specially designed in 2013 to be as accessible as possible to people with special needs such as sight issues or mobility impairments. This way, everyone can get a chance to enjoy the feeling of working amongst the specially selected plants.
The grant funding will be used to help support new programs, at the garden and collaboration with the surrounding community. It will also be used to purchase cantilever parasols to give visitors and people working amongst the greenery a place to find some shade from the sun.
A representative of the Ontario government announced the funding, congratulating the garden for its dedication to enriching the lives of those with special needs. According to the garden’s coordinator, people derive great benefits from contact with nature, and the new improvements will allow for just that.
A Print company can play a role in making a site like this even more accessible. One thing such professionals can do is to create large Print plant labels and other signage, so that those with a visual impairment will find them easier to read.Get a Free Quote for Print
