Residents of Mississauga were very proud recently when one of their own was presented with the highest honor that a Canadian civilian can be given.
Aditya Jha was awarded the Order of Canada in recognition of all of his entrepreneurial efforts, and his contribution to improving the lives of his fellow citizens.
Jha came here from Terai, which straddles the border between India and Nepal, in 1996. He went to work for telecommunications firm Bell Canada, and was soon posted to a position of senior manager.
During his time in this country, he has started POA, which is a charitable organization dedicated to promoting access to education and entrepreneurial opportunities. He has also started a project to help promote financial independence and prosperity for First Nations peoples.
In 2007, he purchased a failing chocolate company and made it a success, which saved 165 local jobs. He also helped to co-found a successful software company.
Jha chairs UNICEF Canada’s Unite for Children and Unite for Aids campaigns, as well as the India AIDS campaign.
All these made him the natural choice to receive this prestigious honor.
He noted that one of the wonderful things about this country is that it allows people to flourish, and it pays people back for all the good things they do.
An event like this usually happens only once in a person’s life, and a printing company can help to commemorate it by producing materials that were specially created for the occasion.
