Mississauga project to monitor health of fish

Electrofishing is a conservation practice that uses electricity to stun fish so they can be measured, weighed and get a health check, and volunteers at an upcoming Mississauga event will be using this technique.

Those who sign up for the Electrofishing Volunteer Day will be gathering at the Meadowvale Conservation Area before they head to the Credit River for this environmental service project. Credit Valley Conservation (CVC) staff will be on hand, but the organizers have explained that assistance from the public is needed to ensure this work will be a success.

The participants will be helping the staff with their tasks, and the information gathered will be recorded and used in conservation projects. Everyone should wear appropriate clothing, as well as a hat and sunscreen, and equipment will be supplied. Advance registration is necessary to take part, and while the help of younger volunteers will be welcome, those who are 18 and under will need to have a signed copy of the event waiver.

Many not-for-profit groups count on the assistance of community members to lend hands to their cause. Their support can be recognized in a variety of ways, including presenting them with Corporate Gifts that acknowledge how important their help has been.

This chance for the public to get involved with some local environmental stewardship is set for August 1st. It will begin at 9:00 am. In the case of inclement weather, it may need to be cancelled.
