Mississauga residents who enjoy spending time in the great outdoors may soon have a new place where they can do just that.
An area that sits west of the border between Etobicoke and Mississauga that’s about the space of 48 football fields is being looked as the future home of the Lakeview Waterfront Connection Program. According to city councilor Jim Tovey, the Peel Regional Council is continuing to show support for the project, and at a recent meeting, they continued to voice their approval for the plan.
The plan is to create a conservation area that is accessible to the public, which will include 1.5 kilometers of lakeshore. The Waterfront Trail’s path will be rerouted so that it follows along this length of shoreline. This will give people a chance to watch the birds, insects and bats that migrate through the area. It will give them a place to rest and eat before they continue on their trip north or south. Signs can be placed along the trail and in other places in the conservation area that give more information about the different species of plants and animals that can be found there. These help people to get the most of their time in the park.
To help build proposed area, clean fill from construction projects will be used. The goal is to start construction in the area in mid 2016.
