Mississauga celebrates the arts with dinner event

The Living Arts Center in Mississauga recently played host to a gala event that attracted more than 300 people.

The Arts for Life black tie dinner offered a chance for local artists to showcase their work and raise money for the city’s creative community.

Mayor McCallion was on hand to say a few words about just how important their contributions to the lifeblood of city are. She noted that while activities such as sports tend to receive a lot of corporate funding, the same can’t always be said for art. The night, however, was a good opportunity for people to come out and show their support.

Juno winner Johny Reid was on hand to provide entertainment for the crowd. His hour-long set combined music and tales of his childhood in Scotland. Performances were also given by Mei Lin Chen, who is a local 19-year-old soprano and winner of the Rotract Singfest, as well as University of Toronto music student Rashaan Allwood, who gave a rousing performance on the piano. BassTransit, a well-known Mississauga-based Chicago tribute band, brought things to a close.

The visual arts were also put in the spotlight. Living Arts Center resident artists produced glass vases that were used as table centerpieces and then given away as prizes at the end of the evening.

Gala nights such this can be made that much more festive by using the services of professional Print companies. Such firms can create printed Menus, signage, decorations, and even Banners to boost the celebration.
