Mississauga applies for federal funding

To help celebrate Canada’s 150th birthday in 2017, the Federal Government had set aside a block of funding for community infrastructure, and Mississauga has come up with plans to make great use of these funds.

The city’s council has brought forward 72 different projects throughout the community where this assistance would be invaluable. Around $150 million will be made available over the next two years, which will go towards financing 1,800 different infrastructure projects across the country. In order to be approved, all of them need to have some sort of tie in with the 150th anniversary and must be mostly completed by June of 2017.

The applications in Mississauga range from playground enhancements and improvements to the construction of trails, walkways, footbridges, splash parks, docks, and the refurbishment of recreational parks. There are also proposals for better event lighting at Celebration Square and the Civic Center.

The council will find out which of its ideas have been approved no later than October 1st of 2015. Once it knows whether or not its proposed ideas have been approved, the authority can use a company that provides printing services to produce Booklets that outline exactly how the funding will be used in the community, along with a timeline for the any projects that will be taking place.
