Gathering to honour Mississauga river

The Credit River is one of Mississauga’s major landmarks, and this urban waterway will soon be the site of a special gathering.

An open invitation has been extended to attend a function that will be held for the water, and the plans include a Water Ceremony, traditional healing and an assortment of First Nations’ speakers. The schedule will be guided by elders and other community leaders, and as the function will be held outdoors, everyone is reminded to come prepared with sunscreen, an umbrella, insect repellent and a refillable water bottle.

It will be a drug and alcohol-free celebration, and the organizers have asked that everyone brings a small amount of water from a pond, stream, lake, river or even from a tap in their kitchen, as this will be used during the Water Ceremony. Snacks will be available, but everyone will need to supply their own breakfast and lunch. A limited number of rough camping sites are on offer for anyone who would like to book one.

During the function, anyone who would like to display a water-related placard is welcome to do so. A poster printing company can prepare items like these, and it can also provide helpful design advice.

The Gathering With The Credit River is scheduled to begin on July 9th in Erindale Park. Its Facebook listing offers the latest updates about the event.
