Markham holiday market to return

Markham Home for the Holidays, a long-running holiday-themed market, will return to its in-person format this November.

The annual event sees small businesses and local crafters set up stalls offering a wide assortment of holiday goodies, including holiday decorations, stocking stuffers and festive fashion items. The event typically features strolling Victorian-style carollers, daycare for children and visits from the big man himself.

Vendors can also include holiday food and drink, whether to warm up or have something to bring home. Popular distributors at past events have included Harvest House Rustic Designs, Red Winter Teddy Bears and Muskoka Pewter, all of whom received “Best of Show” awards, which come with a cash prize.

In 2020, Home for the Holidays was replaced by a three-week online market, which allowed vendors to connect with shoppers in a new way. This year, the event plans to return to its traditional in-person format, facilitating spontaneous encounters and festive cheer.

For many independent artisans and local businesses, the holiday season can make up a large percentage of their annual sales, making events like this crucial to reach shoppers. Businesses often use festive graphic design and special sales to add some holiday cheer to their booths.

Markham Home for the Holidays 2021 is set to take place from Friday, November 19 to Sunday, November 21 at the Markham Fairgrounds.
