An upcoming concert near Markham will pay tribute to the audacious and iconic pop music of the 1980s, with a performance featuring local singer George St. Kitts.
The show, called The Ultimate 80s Show, will see Guyana-born musician St. Kitts heading up a versatile six-piece group performing a selection of 1980s hits by various musicians. Artists mentioned in promotional material for the show include Whitney Houston, Lionel Richie, Prince, Bruce Springsteen and more.
The show has been a hit at venues such as the Flato Markham Theatre and various corporate events, and there will be space for audience members to dance along to the familiar hits.
The Ultimate 80s Show will take place in Oshawa, having previously appeared in the city and nearby locations like Peterborough, and it is looking to attract music lovers from nearby areas such as Markham and Toronto. The show is part of St. Kitts’ abundant music work in Southern Ontario through his St. Kitts Music Organization, which includes the Aurora & Newmarket Jazz+ Festival and other local productions.
Cover bands and shows like this, typically promoted locally through tools like flyer printing and local radio spots, can be a popular way to experience live performances of music by artists who have passed, stopped touring or are otherwise inaccessible.
The Ultimate 80s Show will take place at the Regent Theatre in Oshawa on January 15, 2022.
