The Varley Art Gallery in Markham will be opening two exhibitions next month. The gallery is named after Group of 7 artist F. H. Varley and features many of his works.
"On Your Mark: F. H. Varley, Kate Wilson and Claire Scherzinger" will be showing at the gallery until August. It covers studies on paper created by the three artists; the two women are contemporary artists who concentrate on drawing.
Next, "Instants Passing Through the Air I Breathe" will feature the art of Sarah Cale and will be on display until May 8. Ms. Cole uses "second hand" brush strokes; she applies paint to plastic, peels it off when dry and creates collages onto canvas or linen.
The opening reception for both of these exhibitions will be held on January 31 from 2:00 - 4:00 PM. Refreshments and appetizers will be served and guests will have a chance to get a look at the exhibits. Several of the artists may also be on hand to meet guests.
Those who are studying or working with graphic design in Markham may be very interested in visiting the gallery.
The Varley Art Gallery opens at 11:00 AM on Tuesday to Friday and Sunday and 10:00 AM on Saturday. To find out more about these and other exhibitions at the gallery, call 905-477-7000 x3261.
