Those with autism and other non-neurotypicals can often experience issues with sensory processing, making it difficult for them to interact with the people and world around them. A Markham area workshop will offer learning centred on sensory processing for both professional occupational therapists and those who work in a paraprofessional role.
During the first day of the function, the group will learn about the sensory systems and the various assessment tools that can be used when working with children who are autistic, have issues with anxiety, a learning disability or are otherwise non-neurotypical. Best practices will be shared, and there will be a focus on communicating both with the child involved and their parents.
The second day of the symposium will see participants add to their knowledge of evidence-based interventions, including the BEST (Body, Emotional, Sensory, Thinking) approach. This will be done through small group discussion, case studies and presentations. The fee to register starts at $500.
