Writer Ryan O’Connor visited the Angus Glen Library in Markham on April 14th, where he discussed and read parts of from his latest book.
O'Connor, whose book is entitled ‘The First Green Wave: Pollution Probe and the Origins of Environmental Activism in Ontario’, is also a historian of Canada. Released on April 1st, his newest work describes the history of the Pollution Probe, which is an environmental movement that began in Toronto in the ‘60s.
The author visited the Fireside Lounge, which is located on the second floor of the library.
Students as well as teachers from Toronto University founded the Pollution Probe movement. When in operation, the organization focused on air pollution, pesticides, and detergent being released into lakes. The probe, which likely called upon the services of a professional printing company for publicity, influenced other environmental groups throughout Canada.
Elizabeth Myers, who works as a community librarian, told the local media that she believes the book will be a “fantastic read”. When libraries host events like this, professional flyer and poster printing can drum up attendance numbers.
The visit from O’Connar and the subject matter that he discussed with the audience came ahead of the international celebration Earth Day, which took place on April 22nd and saw various organizations holding events in support of protecting the environment.
