The 13th annual Gingerbread Build is taking place in several parts of the GTA next month. It is a fundraising event for Habitat for Humanity, and 100 percent of all proceeds will go to purchase construction materials.
The first Gingerbread Built is set to take place in Markham on the first Saturday of the month. Participants purchase a kit to decorate; it consists of an 8 x 5-inch house (either assembled or unassembled) and a toolbox filled with candy, icing, wrap and two cookies. Each house costs $50 and can be built by individuals or groups. There will be four sessions held; 10:30 AM, 12:00 PM, 1:30 PM and 3:00 PM.
Sponsors can also help by providing the candy that is used in the decorations.
The next two build events will be held in Toronto later on in the month.
Members of the public can also help by purchasing a kit for a family currently living in a shelter or purchase a kit from several Habitat for Humanity offices to host their own party.
Markham residents who build a house can help spread the word about Habitat for Humanity by using a picture on their Holiday Cards.
The Gingerbread Build will be held at Varley Art Gallery on December 5. To learn more about this event or about Habitat for Humanity, call 416-557-6475.Get a Free Quote for Holiday Cards
