The Oxford Renaissance Festival will be returning this October, looking to bring children and adults from the greater London area into a fantastical world.
The festival offers an immersive experience inspired by the medieval and early modern period, with the official setting being England in the mid-1500s. There will be live entertainment including jousting, musical performances, and skilled demonstrations, while visitors can also try their hands at everything from archery to face painting.
Attendees are encouraged to dress in costumes inspired from real history or fantasy media. This year the event will be held during Halloween season, and children are encouraged to come in their Halloween costumes, with trick or treating available at several stalls.
The fair will be open to school children as part of trips during the day, and to a general audience from nearby cities such as London and Woodstock in the evening. The Renaissance Festival will provide space for a number of different vendors offering modern and historic goods, ranging from wooden swords to a “DIY catapult kit.” Renaissance fairs are an opportunity for local businesses to get imaginative with fantastical graphic design and special costumes. Food and drink, including ale for the grown-up visitors, will also be available, alongside Renaissance characters that attendees can interact with.
The Oxford Renaissance Festival will take place at Dorchester Fairgrounds on October 14 and 15.
