Bikkers was a Canadian painter, printmaker and educator, who received recognition such as the A. J. Casson Award and Royal Canadian Academy of Arts membership during his career. The show will highlight Bikkers’ impact on Canadian art, including both painting and Print works from the 1960s to the mid-2000s. The artist has personal ties to London, having taught drawing and printmaking there in the 1960s and 70s.
In addition to Bikker’s work, the exhibition will feature newly acquired work by Canadian painter Greg Curnoe, who he published and worked with, and selections from the Beal Art Archive. The exhibition will open with a reception open to all, with refreshments and conversation about the work on display.
The exhibit is a part of the Benz Gallery effort’s to celebrate London’s historic connections to the art world, ranging from ceramics to contemporary abstract art. Art and printmaking exhibitions like this often inspire trips to Print shops and art supply stores for creative exploration. The gallery describes its mission as:
“Situated in a space steeped in the legacy of the London Regionalism movement, the Benz Gallery seeks to rekindle the city’s artistic spirit by showcasing local talent alongside complementary contemporary works from across Canada.”
The Rudolf Bikkers exhibit will be on display at the Benz Gallery in London from April 10 to 30, with the reception on the 10th.
