The Men of Accord are a barbershop-style singing society that began specializing in quartets, made up of a tenor, lead, bass and baritone harmonizing to create a melodic sound. Since then, the group has grown to include full chorus. The current version of the chorus will be performing at the anniversary show to highlight their growth.
The anniversary event will also include contracted guest performers from the world of a capella music. Headlining the show are quartet First Take, an experienced group who were runners -up at the Barbershop Harmony Society’s international competition. Also performing will be Ontario award winners Northern Pursuit and female a capella group Imagine That.
In addition to celebrating the anniversary, the group will be looking to use the event to encourage new participants in the choir and quartets. Hobby and artistic societies like this often use methods like brochure printing and websites to help attract newcomers. The Men of Accord website reads:
“If you're like us, you can't stop singing. There's always a little melody running through your head, ready to burst out. [...] Come join us in a song and have the time of your life.”
The London Men of Accord 80th anniversary concert will take place at the German Canadian Club on November 1.
