The Opera at Western student group will be staging its version of a modern musical classic in London this March with “Sweeney Todd – The Demon Barber of Fleet Street: A Musical Thriller”.
Written by Stephen Sondheim with the book by Hugh Wheeler, the dark comedy tells the story of an exiled man who returns in disguise as a barber, looking for revenge on his city’s elite. “Sweeney Todd” has been performed countless times and been adapted into a feature film. Student productions like this often use methods like poster printing and social media to help attract an audience on campus.
The Opera at Western version will feature local students and instructors from Western University’s Don Wright Faculty of Music in the key roles, demonstrating their musical talent. This production will be helmed by music director Simone Luti and stage director Jennifer Tarver. Discount tickets are available for students and seniors.
There will be four performances of the show, including two evening shows and two matinees. This will be the final show of the Opera at Western organization’s 2025-26 season, which also included a performance of Mozart’s Cosi fan tutte and a showcase of baroque opera performances.
The Opera at Western production of “Sweeney Todd – The Demon Barber of Fleet Street: A Musical Thriller” will take place from March 5 to 8 at the Paul Davenport Theatre in London.
