A coiled basket workshop in London will introduce participants to a method rooted in ancient basket-making traditions.

The session focuses on working with yarns and threads gathered from personal collections, encouraging attendees to use familiar materials. Rather than relying on new supplies, the workshop proposes repurposing existing yarns and threads, often referred to as a “stash.”

Participants are advised to bring sturdy fibres such as cotton, wool, or linen, which are less likely to break during construction. Finer materials, including crochet cotton, embroidery floss, or lightweight yarns, may also be incorporated.

Colour selection plays a central role in the workshop. Attendees are encouraged to experiment with combinations, allowing visual exploration to guide the shaping of each piece. The organizer says the process is fun, with room for creativity, making the technique accessible to beginners.

No prior experience is required. The workshop is designed to accommodate first-time makers while still offering depth for those interested in returning to the technique for future projects. Participants are asked to bring basic tools, including scissors and a strong tapestry needle, alongside their yarn selections.
