Museum London will soon welcome Cloudburst, a solo exhibition by local artist Billy Bert Young.
Billy Bert Young was born in London, Ontario in the 1980s, and has been part of the city’s art community since 2010. Young’s artistic craft combines drawings, paintings, and colourful cartoon-like characters shaped into a collage-type storyboard. His artworks, such as Koan and On from 2023, have been known to display mythical imagery, people, and objects referencing time by using characters and period sensitive artefacts.
Cloudburst showcases the artist’s most recent body of work, representing four years of creative exploration. The Museum London will present an acrylic on wood panel collection that includes What Goes Up (2021), Lengthy Grasp for One Last Gasp (2022), Lord, Let This Percussion Pierce the Sky and Scrape the Sea (2023), and Occam’s Cloudburst (2024), paintings to name a few.
According to the Museum London, Young combines pop culture themes with modern symbolism, creating a carnivalesque energy that feels familiar and fantastical. In a press release, Young has noted that Cloudburst represents a new chapter in his career.
