Merrymount, a London-based non-profit organization, will be taking its annual Mardi Gras-themed fundraiser virtual this year.
The event, suitably dubbed “Merry Gras”, will take the form of a two-hour live stream featuring live performances by the Mark Swan Jazz Quartet and the “virtual magician” Graemazing. The event will also feature a silent auction to raise additional money.
The stream will be co-hosted by event chair Andrew Young and Jay Stevens of Virgin Radio. Proceeds will go to support Merrymount’s efforts to help children and families in need. The organization’s programs include childcare for families facing disruption, emergency residential space and support groups for both parents and children.
As with past events, ticket buyers will receive a Cajun-inspired multi-course meal, with this year’s featuring chilled shrimp, mixed greens with remoulade sauce, bourbon braised beef brisket, succotash pancake and green bean casserole, with a dessert of king cake. The meal will be created by Chef David Van Eldik, with specialized cocktails mixed by Top Shelf Distillers, and will be available for pickup on the day of the event.
The past year has seen many traditional fundraising events go virtual, using tools like poster printing and digital advertising to raise awareness.
The virtual edition of Merry Gras will take place on the evening of February 11. Meals will be distributed at the RBC Centre.
