A summer tradition will return with new twists this August as London Ribfest is held in Victoria Park.
The annual festival brings some of the best barbecuers from across the continent together to see who can produce the best grilled food. Food choices range from the classic pork and beef ribs to vegetarian options, Canadian bacon poutine, and Southern-style corn bread, while classic summer drinks include butter beer soda and frozen yams. Some of the different “pit crews” at the events include Boss Hog’s, Kentucky Smokehouse, and Fat Boys Barbecue. Judges will award prizes to the best grillmasters in several categories.
This year’s event will also include a Ribfest Retro Roller Skating event, with a 1980s theme. Kids and adults can bring their own skates or rent them at the festival and take to the rink. After 9pm the rink will be adults only, with a beer garden and costume contest for the most radical 80s fashion. Other attractions include the Reptilia show and exhibit, a giant Jenga tower, and a live theatre tribute. There will also be music from local bands, including Lost in Japan, Loud Love, and the Journey Men of Soul. Summer cookout events like this are popular across the country, often using flyer printing and local media spots to help raise awareness.
The 2024 London Ribfest will take place on Civic Holiday weekend, from August 1 to 5 at Victoria Park.
