The London Community Players, a local theatrical group, will soon be presenting a play by Canadian playwright Norm Foster.
The play, On A First Name Basis, takes the form of a conversation between David, a successful novelist, and his long-term housekeeper Lucy, in which secrets are revealed and long-building conflicts come to a head. The London production will be directed by Cindi Armer-Almeida and produced by Mary Jane Walrak.
The London Community Players’ productions typically involve a cast and crew of local theatre enthusiasts. Foster is considered to be Canada’s most-produced playwright, and his plays are known for their humour and insight.
On A First Name Basis is as part of the London Community Players’ 2021-22 Main Stage series. The series marks the company’s first full season since being shut down in 2020. Productions scheduled for later in the season include Picasso at the Lapin Agile, an absurdist comedy written by actor Steve Martin, a production of Pulitzer-winning drama Proof and an adaptation of Jane Austen’s classic novel Pride and Prejudice.
Local productions like this, typically promoted through tools like poster printing and social media, often feature new renditions of plays that have had success elsewhere.
The London Community Players’ production of On A First Name Basis will take the stage between January 13 and 23 at the Palace Theatre Arts Commons.
