London hobby shop to undergo ownership change

London’s Imperial Hobbies store is currently closed, but it will soon re-open under a new name – one of several changes to come.

The store has been operated by owner Dave Carnie for over 20 years, with a focus on board and card games, as well as other hobby materials. Carnie is now retiring, with entrepreneur Jeff Evans taking over the space.

Evans will be renovating the space and re-opening the store as Mana Lounge, which is currently located down the road as a part-time game shop focused on the card game Magic: The Gathering. The business will take advantage of its new space to expand into a full-time retail shop, to include other popular card, board and roleplaying games.

The renovated space will also be home to the Tiny Titans game studio owned by Evans. The studio has published games for phones such as Dash Quest, Tiny Rails and Arena Stars. When possible, Mana Lounge has hosted regular tournaments, with some coinciding with releases of new card sets or being part of Magic’s larger competitive framework.

Tournaments and other events, often providing Promotional Products and prizes, can turn a store into a hub for local hobbyists and help to build a community.

Imperial Hobbies will re-open as Mana Lounge within the next few months, first offering retail on weekdays before eventually holding events on evenings and weekends.
