The local economy in London has lagged behind other cities in Ontario, prompting the need for advertising to help boost growth in the sputtering city in the second quarter of 2013. Projections report that that the city is still recuperating from its last recession.
Growth has since returned to the city but at a slower pace; only 1.2% when compared to other cities in Ontario, including Kitchener-Waterloo, Hamilton and Toronto. London and the London metropolitan area ranked 19th out of 28 major Canadian cities. The reports counted London, Strathroy-Caradoc, St. Thomas, and parts of Elgin County and Middlesex.
Some solid recovery is evident in the sectors of manufacturing and has been driven primarily by auto sales, as future sales also appear bright. Other areas, like the public sector, experienced a sharp stagnation, especially in the fields of health care and education.
Local printing companies can help bring the London area’s GDP to higher levels through poster printing and advertising of London’s products and services. Brochure printing can be used effectively to invite retailers, investors and tourists to spend in the region.
An aggressive and strategic marketing campaign could help offset the services hampered by the value of the dollar, Asian competition and higher energy prices. This could be effective in dominant areas like car sales, for example.
The good news is that the manufacturing sector is expected to continue to improve over the course of the year, despite the closing of the St. Thomas Ford and Electro-Motive diesel plants.
