Having sat vacant for six years, a London building designed to host a “big box” retail store will soon become a hub for families and communities.

The building will become an Activity Plex, which looks to offer popular childhood after-school and weekend activities like piano lessons, tutoring and gymnastics in one convenient location. For waiting parents, the redeveloped building will include a coffee lounge, gym, and free Wi-Fi throughout.

The Activity Plex is the brainchild of Adam Jacobson, who opened the first one in Burlington and is currently constructing a second in St. Catherine’s. In addition to more conventional activities, the Burlington Activity Plex offers contemporary pastimes like coding, bubble soccer, and “ninja warrior” training. Businesses like this depend on community participation, and often use tools like brochure printing, giveaways, banner printing, and public events to reach out.

The store in question, formerly a Rona, is located at the intersection of Comissioners Road East and Highbury Avenue. The London Activity Plex is planned to open in September of 2020. Jacobson is currently looking for local instructors and studios to serve as tenants. T

his business model has proved to be a success in the fully-occupied Burlington branch. His group has also purchased the other buildings located within the square, including a few still-active businesses, who will no doubt hope to benefit from the increased activity.
