Indigenous hip-hop icons to perform in London

The Halluci Nation, formerly known as A Tribe Called Red, will be performing in London this fall as part of a continent-wide tour.

Performing at the London show will be Tim “2oolman” Hill and Ehren “Bear Witness” Thomas. While the group has been performing since 2007, the current line-up dates back to 2017, when Ian “DJ NDN” Campeau left the band due to health reasons.

The Halluci Nation will be performing their signature style of music, dubbed “powwow-step”, which combines traditional First Nations sounds such as vocal chanting and drumming with electronic music, hip-hop, reggae and dubstep. The performance will include songs from the group’s most recent album, One More Saturday Night, inspired by their long-running monthly party series in Ottawa.

The London show is part of a broader North American tour, which includes several dates in both the United States and Canada. The tour is the first since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, and since the group’s change in name earlier this year to The Halluci Nation.

Concerts like this, typically advertised through poster printing and social media, have provided an outlet for musicians from traditionally marginalized groups, with Hill belonging to the Mohawk of the Six Nations and Thomas to the Cayuga First Nation.

The Halluci Nation will perform at the London Music Hall on November 6. The show is open to all ages.
