Last weekend cameras rolled and Banners advertised the highly entertaining and creative London Fringe 62 Hour Film Contest that began Friday, March 18 and ended on Sunday, March 20. As they do every year, film crews had a mere 62 hours to write, edit and shoot a short film, with the added twist of mandatory secret elements introduced the Friday prior to screening, to further complicate matters for film crews.
The secret elements often include props, secret dialogue or scene locations that must be inserted in the film. The difficult to incorporate elements to be included in this year’s submissions included a scene with a downtown London, ON clock, a can of luncheon meat, dialogue, “the cat needs an operation”, all filmed within the theme of missed connections.
The emergent winner of this year’s contest was Frantic, a piece by Sunny Day Jazz and RedCat Film Mechanically Separated by Robot on the Rampage Productions earned a second place win in the 62 hour Fringe contest. All film finalists can be viewed on various social media websites online.
All screenings took place on March 20, with the eight top films receiving finalist awards. The Fringe Festival Theatre contest draws numerous ambitious film crews every year, with heavy advertising about the event on social media and banner printing around London, ON and around the province.
Screenings took place at the London Convention Centre, followed by awards presentations at the Morrissey House in London, ON.
