Airshow London to return as SkyDrive

A local favourite, Airshow London will take place again this September, this time with a new drive-in format.

The Airshow is one of the premier Canadian aviation events, and features the only Canadian appearance of the US Air Force Thunderbirds. Also scheduled are demonstrations from the Royal Canadian Air Force and the US’s Golden Knights Parachute Team, F-22 Raptor Demonstration Team, and C-17 Globemaster Demonstration Team. Airshows like this are popular among families as well as aviation and history buffs, and are often promoted through flyer printing campaigns and online.

The Airshow typically features a festival atmosphere, with refreshments and other entertainment, but this year, it will feature a special drive-in format that is being marketed as SkyDrive. Participants can park their cars in multiple zones around the airports and watch the planes perform from the comfort of their front seats, or in the nearby area. The audio broadcast for the show can be picked up on car radios. Organizers estimate that the space can hold almost 2,500 vehicles. Event chair Jim Graham explained the format shift:

“We know how much the air show is enjoyed by the community […] we wanted to create a solution that minimizes risk and interaction while still offering an exciting and family-friendly event.”

The 2020 edition of Airshow London will take place on September 12 and 13 at London International Airport.
