The participating organizations will all send teams to Stittsville to duke it out in euchre. The trick-taking card game is played in pairs and is especially popular in Canada and other parts of the Commonwealth. Each organization can submit up to five players that are members of their club, including those from nearby municipalities like Ottawa and Kanata.
Participating organizations include the Stittsville Village Association, Ottawa Fire Department and the Stittsville-Goulborn Horticultural Society. There will also be representatives from the offices of local politicians and media organisations. All proceeds from the tournament will go towards the Stittsville Food Bank.
The Battle of Stittsville was created by the local Business Association to try to bring the community together and give back to those in need during what is often a slow season for charitable donations. Fundraising events like this often use methods like brochure printing and signage to encourage donations and highlight local sponsors. Promotional material for the “Battle” adopts a humorous tone:
“It’s more iconic than the water tower… It’s more talked about than that Carp Road pothole…It’s Stittsville versus Stittsville.”
The 2026 Battle of Stittsville will take place at the Royal Oak on the afternoon of February 28.
