International circus coming to Kanata
The Cirque du Paris troupe will be visiting Kanata this July, looking to use a variety of acts to attract and amaze spectators from throughout the National Capital Region.
The show, run by the Cirque Anouchka Bouglione troupe, draws on French circus traditions as well as modern spectacle. Featured acts include acrobats, BMX trick riders, clowns, magicians and more. While the circus has been to the Ottawa area before, this will be a new show with new performers. Each show will run for approximately 90 minutes and is aimed at a family audience. There will also be a pre-show and intermission where audience members can engage in activities and possibly interact with the cast members. There will be food vendors, face painting, photo opportunities and more.
The Cirque du Paris will have their tents up in Ottawa for 11 days, with nightly shows as well as matinees on the weekends. Modern circus performances like this typically focus on human performers and use social media as well as methods like banner printing to help raise awareness in the community. Marketing material also emphasizes the family nature of the business, with Bouglione’s ancestors having run the circus since 1934, including appearing in the 1955 movie Trapeze.
Cirque du Paris’s Kanata performances will take place from June 12 to 22 at the Tanger Outlets.
