Guelph is home to a farm that provides a second chance at life to mules, donkeys and “hinnies” that have been neglected, abused or whose owners love them but can no longer care for them, and the facility is now open for its summer visitor schedule.
The Donkey Sanctuary, which is also a working farm, will once again be open to visitors on Wednesdays from 10:00 am until 3:00 pm. Those who come out to meet some new four-hooved friends will have a chance to meet the donkeys and other residents and get to know them a bit better by spending time with them, and even giving one a good brushing.
There will be displays of donkey care, as well as Donkey Talks that give further information about these animals. There is a quiet spot by a pond for picnics, nature trails to hike, and at the end of the day, visitors can pay a visit to the Long Ears Boutique to pick up a souvenir of their visit. A local printer can work with a not-for-profit group such as this to craft an assortment of Promotional Products that can be sold as fundraising souvenirs to visitors to the facility.
Those who sponsored one of the farm’s charges will be able to visit them in person. They can take photos and see how their contributions are used to help.
The Donkey Sanctuary of Canada can be found at 6981 Concession 4 in Puslinch. It will be open on Wednesdays for its summer hours throughout July and August. More details, as well as general information about the dos and don’ts of visiting a working farm have been added to the organization’s website.
