Film festival to return to Guelph

The Guelph Film Festival is scheduled to return for its 2022 edition this November, with a focus on documentaries dealing with important issues.

The festival features three avenues for films to reach the big screen. The general submission window allows for documentarians from around the world to submit their pictures, with special categories for Indigenous-Made, Ontario Student and Canadian documentaries. The “Tiny Docs by Tiny People” program invites kids of 11 or younger from Guelph and Wellington County to create one to two-minute short films that will be screened as part of the festival. There will also be Community Screenings in partnership with local organizations designed to benefit the city of Guelph.

All selected movies will be screened in Guelph for the first time, and the program will include at least 50% Canadian films. The festival line-up includes 11 feature films, such as And Still I Sing, Returning Home, and Urya – The Rising Forest, along with 11 short films. Whereas last year’s festival was entirely virtual, 2022 will feature both in-person and virtual screening periods. Local film festivals such as this commonly feature independent and international films, using eye-catching poster printing and local media for exposure.

The 2022 Guelph Film Festival is set to take place between November 4 and 12 with in-person screenings in downtown Guelph, and online streams from November 13 to 26.
