New university could be on the way for Brampton
Those who live in Brampton may soon be able to attend university classes a little closer to home.
The University of Toronto has expressed an interest in setting up a campus somewhere in the city. The announcement came after a public request by the province’s government for proposals to help meet a need in the Peel and Halton regions for post secondary institutions of their own.
Deep Saini, who is the vice president of the university, noted that its size makes it the logical choice to meet this need. He also pointed out that there would have to be discussions within the institution before the plan goes ahead.
According to website The Medium, the city has set up a blue ribbon panel to further look in to the matter, and they contacted several post secondary schools to discus the possibility of them opening a campus in Brampton. They received replies from four of them, and are meeting with them to further explore the feasibility of such a project. It is not known yet how long this stage of the proceedings will take. Once they have reached a decision, a printer can design and print presentation folders to contain information about their plan. These can be distributed to community members, potential students as well as any other stakeholders who may wish to have one.
Many students in the city already attend the University of Toronto’s Mississauga campus.
