Brampton Walk of Fame honours Bollywood actress

The Brampton Walk of Fame has honoured Indian actress Bipasha Basu with a legacy plaque. The plaque was placed outside of the Rose Theatre and was celebrated by hundreds of her fans. It is one of many events leading up to the 12th annual Indian International Film Awards being held now from June 23-June 25 in Toronto. Bollywood films have a huge following in Canada and companies who specialize in poster printing often have trouble keeping up with demand.

For the first time ever, the Indian International Film Awards (IIFA) are being held in North America. They will take place at the Toronto Convention Centre. There is a large market in Brampton and Toronto for Bollywood films; the actors and actresses are worshipped by many judging from the frenzied welcome they are receiving at the airport.

The IIFA consists of much more than just awards; there are several other events surrounding the awards. IIFA Rocks is a celebration of Indian fashion and music and the IIFA film festival will present some of the best Bollywood films. There will also be a press conference, a music workshop and the FICCI/IIFA Global Business Forum.

The Brampton Walk of Fame honour was just one of many events which will take place in Toronto, Brampton, Mississauga and Markham in conjunction with the IIFA. The hosting of this event in Toronto shows that there is more to entertainment that what comes out of Hollywood and more and more people are realizing that every day.
