Brampton residents asked to lend their green thumbs to community event

An event has been planned for Brampton’s Heart Lake Road Conservation Area that will give those who participate an opportunity to do their bit for the local environment.

The session, which will be hosted by Evergreen, will give those who take part an opportunity to learn more about the importance of native plants in the natural landscape. This will be done through engaging in hands-on activities such as the removal of invasive species, weeding, and learning tips on how to identify native plants. Mulching and pick up of litter will also be performed.

The social aspect of the evening will also be featured, and participants will be able to meet with others who share their sense of appreciation for the environment, and learn more about the role greenspaces play in urban communities. It will also be an opportunity to perform community service.

The evening of environmental stewardship will take place on August 18, starting at 6:00 pm. There is no cost to get involved, and those who are considering doing so are ask to complete an Evergreen volunteer application. Brochures can be distributed throughout the community to help organizations like this make the public more aware of their activities and what they can do to lend a hand.

Further details about the event can be found on Brampton’s website, or by calling 416-857-3905 for more information.
