Brampton police follow new transition protocol

Peel Regional Police, which serve Brampton and other communities, has released a new protocol that its officers will follow when working with people in a mental health crisis.

The Peel Regional Police-Hospital Transition Protocol has been developed to help connect someone who is experiencing a mental health emergency with appropriate community support. This can benefit both the individual and officer alike, and the department has pointed out that input from many social service agencies, hospitals and other stakeholders was all included when preparing the plan.

One of the benefits of the new protocols is that it may shorten hospital wait times, which can lead to better outcomes and more positive interactions with mental health care staff and other support. The system outlines the roles of the police, as well as that of medical staff, paramedics and mental health care service providers.

When drafting a protocol or key policy like this, it can be a wise move to ensure that printed copies are available for the public to peruse. A company that prepares letterheads can offer this service, and can even bind the documents for easy reading and to protect them for the future.

The Peel Regional Police force noted that it adopted the policies on October 20th. More details about the document and its contents can be found on the Peel Police website.
